Heating Tune-Up

What a One-Visit Furnace Tune-Up Does for Your Home

A heating tune-up is a single service visit, no membership needed. For year-round coverage, our heating maintenance plan pairs the fall visit with a spring AC tune-up. Here is what one thorough fall visit does:

Carbon Monoxide Safety

Every visit includes a heat exchanger inspection and a combustion test, the two checks that catch carbon monoxide risks before they reach your home.

Lower Heating Bills

Clean burners, a fresh filter, and a healthy blower burn less gas for the same warmth, which shows up on winter bills.

No Cold-Night Surprises

Worn ignitors, dirty flame sensors, and tired blower motors fail on the coldest night of the year. A fall visit finds them in October.

Warranty Paperwork

Most furnace warranties require proof of annual professional service. Your tune-up invoice is that proof.

One Visit, About an Hour

Plan on 60 to 90 minutes. The technician works a written checklist and leaves you a report, not a sales pitch.

Upgrade to the Gold Club Anytime

Members get the fall heating tune-up and a spring AC visit for $230 a year, plus priority scheduling and 10% off repairs.

Coastal Expertise

Fall Tune-Ups for Damp Coastal Winters

Winters in Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, and Huntington Beach are mild but damp. Once the marine layer settles in, beach homes turn chilly at night, and many still run their original furnaces. A fall tune-up gets ahead of that, and on older coastal furnaces the carbon monoxide check matters most of all.

CO Safety on Older Furnaces

On every visit we inspect the heat exchanger for cracks and test for carbon monoxide, the safety check that matters most on aging heating systems.

Heat Pumps Near the Beach

Coastal heat pumps warm your home with the same outdoor unit salt air corrodes. We clean and inspect the coils, fins, and contacts so they are ready for winter duty.

Both Seasons Covered

Beach-close systems do best with a fall heating tune-up and a spring AC visit. That is exactly what the Gold Club covers, if you want both handled.

Heating Tune-Up FAQs

Heating Tune-Up Questions, Answered

In the Orange County market a standalone furnace tune-up usually runs to 9, and annual plans 0 to 0 a year; what each company actually checks varies, so ask for the list. Klondike Air quotes the price when you book, and the Gold Club covers the fall heating visit and the spring AC visit together for 0 a year. Call (714) 465-5828 for current pricing.

A tune-up is one fall visit: inspect, clean, safety-test, report. Maintenance is the ongoing plan, both seasons on a schedule with priority scheduling and repair discounts. For a one-time check, book a tune-up. For the plan, see our heating maintenance page.

A heat exchanger inspection for cracks, a carbon monoxide test, burner and flame sensor cleaning, checks of the ignitor, blower motor, gas pressure, and filter, thermostat calibration, and a written report on the furnace’s condition. On heat pumps we clean and inspect the outdoor coil and check the defrost cycle.

Plan on 60 to 90 minutes. That is what it takes to inspect the heat exchanger, run a combustion test, clean the burners, and check the blower and gas pressure properly. A rushed 20-minute visit cannot do that list justice.

Fall, ideally September through November, before the first cold nights. Problems get caught before the furnace runs daily, slots are easier to get than in December, and repairs can be handled while it is still mild out. Our post on how often to schedule a heating tune-up covers the timing.

With a furnace it is a safety question first. A cracked heat exchanger or incomplete combustion can put carbon monoxide into the home with no obvious warning, and both develop slowly enough that an annual inspection catches them. The tune-up also keeps most manufacturer warranties valid and catches the small failures that cause no-heat calls in winter.

No. Working CO detectors on every level of the home are your everyday protection; the tune-up is the yearly inspection that finds the causes before a detector ever has to sound. Have both.

Yes. Heat pumps get the outdoor coil, refrigerant charge, electrical, reversing valve, and defrost controls checked, and ductless heads get cleaned. Book the same way and tell us the system type.

No. You get a straight report and, if anything needs attention, a written price to approve first. If a furnace is genuinely unsafe or at the end of its life we will say so and price the options; our heating installation page covers what a replacement involves.
