Newport Beach’s Hometown HVAC Company

Newport Beach is the hardest place in Orange County to keep an HVAC system healthy: harbor-front homes on Lido Isle and the Peninsula, rooftop units on Balboa condos, and hillside view homes in Newport Heights all run their equipment in salt air year-round. After three decades on this harbor, we know exactly what that salt and marine layer do to condensers, coils, and electrical connections, and how to stay ahead of it.

Klondike Air has been local, family-owned and operated since 1989, with 1,000+ five-star reviews from Orange County homeowners, and our Newport Beach office is right here on Old Newport Blvd. Appointments are easy to book, with courteous, NATE-certified technicians and written, upfront pricing you approve before any work begins.

Ocean-Air Expertise

Harbor Air Is the #1 Enemy of Newport Beach ACs

Waterfront and near-harbor homes can lose 2–4 years of AC lifespan to salt-air corrosion when systems go unmaintained, and rooftop units on Peninsula and Balboa condos take it hardest. We treat that as part of the job:

Coastal Corrosion Checks

Condenser coils, fins, and electrical contacts inspected for salt damage on every Newport Beach visit, including rooftop condo units.

Protective Coil Treatment

Where salt is taking hold, protective treatment and simple owner habits that slow it down.

Honest Repair-or-Replace Calls

Corrosion factors into every recommendation: you never pay to fix a unit the ocean has already claimed.

Harbor to Bluffs

Every Newport Neighborhood Has Its Own HVAC Story

We keep an office on Old Newport Boulevard, and decades of calls across the city have taught us that Newport Beach is really a collection of micro-climates and housing eras. What a harbor-front home on Lido needs has little in common with a Newport Coast build from 2005, and treating them the same is how systems fail early.

Newport Heights & Cliffhaven. Older character homes above the bay, many cooled for the first time during a remodel. Tight lots and mature landscaping mean condenser placement takes real thought, and ductless systems often win where attic space ran out decades ago.

Dover Shores & Westcliff. Mid-century ranches with original duct runs and, in many cases, furnaces old enough to vote. This is where we most often find equipment running far past its efficient life, and where an upgrade pays back fastest on the utility bill.

Eastbluff, Big Canyon & the Bluffs. Condo and townhome communities with active associations and shared walls. We handle HOA paperwork, match placement rules, and schedule work to association hours so the job never becomes your neighbor’s problem.

Lido, Bayshores & the harbor front. Salt-laden air off the water attacks coils and cabinets year-round. Coastal units here benefit from corrosion-resistant coil treatment and a rinse-and-inspect schedule; skip it and a ten-year unit can look and perform like a twenty-year one.

Newport Coast. Larger Mediterranean-style homes from the 1990s and 2000s, usually zoned across two or three systems. The original equipment generation is aging out now, and staged replacements let owners spread the investment without losing cooling in the meantime.

The marine-layer sizing trap. Coastal calculators routinely oversize equipment for Newport homes because they ignore how much cooling the ocean does for free. An oversized unit cools the air fast but never runs long enough to pull moisture out of it, which is why some of the most expensive systems in the city leave their houses feeling damp. We size for the September heat wave rather than the July haze, and the difference shows up in comfort as much as on the utility bill.

The heating side of harbor living. Newport evenings turn cool fast once the sun drops behind the Peninsula, and the damp air makes sixty degrees feel colder than it reads. Well-maintained heat brings real quality of life here ten months a year, so we treat furnace and heat pump checks as a fall ritual for harbor-adjacent homes, not an afterthought bolted onto the AC visit. If your heater has not been inspected since you bought the house, October is the month to fix that, before the first cold snap books out every calendar in the county.

Wondering what your system actually needs? Our team debunks the common HVAC maintenance myths we hear in Newport Beach, or you can book a straightforward maintenance visit and get honest answers at the house.

Newport Beach HVAC FAQs

HVAC Questions, Answered

Most residential AC repairs in this market run $150–$650, with common service calls averaging around $350. A diagnostic fee typically runs $75–$150 and is often applied to the repair. A failed capacitor (the single most common AC repair) sits at the low end; compressor work is the priciest at $900–$2,900+. Every Klondike Air visit starts with a written, upfront quote you approve before any work begins. Call (714) 465-5828 for your exact price.

A useful benchmark is the $5,000 rule: multiply the repair cost by your system’s age in years. If the result tops $5,000, replacement usually wins. On a 20-year-old unit it’s rarely worth repairing: most use phased-out R-22 refrigerant that’s scarce and expensive, and harbor-front salt exposure belongs in that math too. We price both options with real numbers and an honest recommendation, never a pressured upsell.

Central AC units typically last 12–15 years (full HVAC systems 10–25 depending on equipment), but harbor-front and Peninsula systems trend shorter, losing 2–4 years to salt corrosion when unmaintained. Seasonal coastal maintenance with corrosion checks is the difference between the short end and the long end of that range.

All major brands: Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Rheem, Bryant, Goodman, Daikin, American Standard, and more, including the coastal-protection lines built for salt-air environments. NATE-certified, factory-trained technicians on every visit.

Salt accelerates corrosion on condenser coils and cabinets, and homes closest to the harbor and ocean see it fastest. Protective coil coatings, backed by fresh-water rinses and an annual coastal inspection, stretch equipment life by years. It is the single most important maintenance difference between Newport Beach and inland Orange County.

Regularly. We prepare the paperwork associations ask for, follow placement and screening rules, and schedule installations inside association work hours. If your community requires an architectural application for equipment changes, we supply the specs and drawings that keep approval moving.

Very. Newport’s mild marine climate sits in the sweet spot where heat pumps run at their best efficiency all year, and a single system replaces both furnace and AC. We spec coastal-appropriate corrosion protection so the outdoor unit stands up to harbor air.

A furnace from the 60s or 70s can still light, but efficiency, parts availability, and heat-exchanger age all argue for a planned replacement rather than an emergency one. We inspect it honestly, tell you what condition it is really in, and quote options in writing so you can decide on your own schedule.

Our Newport office sits on Old Newport Boulevard, minutes from the Heights, the harbor, and the island communities. We cover all of Newport Beach; call (714) 465-5828 and we will give you a realistic arrival window, not a four-hour shrug.
